MERCOSUR Cultural Heritage
The MERCOSUR Cultural Heritage category was approved by the Council of the Common Market on December 6, 2012, through Decision CMC No. 55/12 (later updated by Decision CMC No. 21/14).
This category sets out the criteria for the recognition of cultural heritage of regional interest, considering that: cultural heritage contributes to the recognition and appreciation of regional cultural identity; heritage property constitutes an element for understanding the references, principles, and values present and shared among the countries of the region; and recognizing the importance of a cultural asset beyond a country’s borders is an important factor for integration among the countries of the region.
