The countries agreed on a work plan to explore options for increasing exports of vegetable oils to India. MERCOSUR is currently one of the world’s major exporters of this type of oil.
The Third Round of Negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and Singapore began virtually on February 21. Negotiations began in April 2019, and this round is expected to make significant progress toward concluding the agreement by June of this year.
On June 18, 2020, under Paraguay’s leadership as Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR 2020, negotiations on the political and cooperation chapters of the MERCOSUR–European Union Bi-Regional Association Agreement were concluded.
On Friday, August 23, 2019, in Buenos Aires, negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA)—a bloc composed of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland—were officially concluded. Negotiations between the two blocs were launched in January 2017 and concluded after ten rounds.
From July 8 to 12, Montevideo hosted the third round of trade negotiations between MERCOSUR and the Republic of Korea. Uruguay is coordinating this negotiation on behalf of MERCOSUR.
