Dialogue Between MERCOSUR and the People’s Republic of China in Montevideo

Under Uruguay’s Pro Tempore Presidency (PPTU), the seventh Dialogue Meeting between MERCOSUR and the People’s Republic of China was held in Montevideo.

Opening remarks were delivered by Uruguay’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Paganini, and the meeting was chaired by Uruguay’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicolás Albertoni, in his capacity as PPTU. The delegation of the People’s Republic of China was headed by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying.

The delegations were led by senior officials from the deputy ministries of the founding Member States of the bloc: Ambassadors Leopoldo Shaores and Marcelo Cima (Argentina); María Laura da Rocha and Tatiana Prazeres (Brazil); and Patricia Frutos (Paraguay). Nicolás Albertoni also led Uruguay’s delegation during this meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the MERCOSUR Secretariat in Montevideo.

This latest round of Dialogue is one of the key priorities established by Uruguay for its current semester as Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR, which began on July 8, according to Uruguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
