MERCOSUR and EFTA Hold 12th Round of Negotiations in Buenos Aires
From Tuesday, March 25 to Friday, March 28, the 12th Round of Negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was held under the coordination of the Argentine Republic.
The meetings took place at the San Martín Palace, headquarters of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and marked the first in-person round since April 2024.
This round followed an intense period of technical exchanges over the past months. With it, both parties reaffirm their political commitment to advancing toward the conclusion of negotiations within the current semester.
The European Free Trade Association—comprising Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland—is an intergovernmental organization established in 1960 to promote free trade and economic integration among its Member States. It is a significant player in international trade and a highly valued partner for MERCOSUR.
Argentina leads the negotiation on behalf of MERCOSUR, while Switzerland coordinates the process on behalf of EFTA.
